The job
We’re seeking a Finance Assistant with a proactive attitude and a strong willingness to learn. The ideal candidate should have a foundational understanding of accounting principles to effectively support the company’s daily financial operations.
The Finance Assistant is a key member of the finance team and must have the ability to work with financial data accurately and efficiently.
Key accountabilities
- Develop a strong understanding of the business’ financial system
- Assist the team with the preparation and maintenance of financial records to ensure that all invoices and transactions are correctly allocated on our accounting software
- Support accounts payable and receivables to ensure the timely processing of payments and collections
- Assist with payroll processing and related documentation
- Assist with maintaining accurate records of transactions, supporting documentation and financial data
- Assist in the preparation of tax filings and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Support the finance team with month-end and year-end close processes
- Provide general administrative support to the finance department as needed
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information
- Assist in the continuous improvement of financial processes and procedures
Person specifications
Qualifications and experience
- One of (if not both):
- AAT Level 4
- Degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
- Relevant experience or educational background in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred
- Knowledge of the private medical insurance industry would be helpful (but not essential)
- Proven expertise in working with Xero and all its reporting functions
- Knowledge of accountancy principles, regulatory filing requirements & the importance of meeting deadlines
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

- A strong team player who can prioritise tasks to increase productivity
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy and the ability to meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Recognition that a flexible working approach is needed due to high-pressured times during the financial year
- Ability to work under pressure and often with conflicting priorities
