Meet Healthcode’s Senior Product Manager (ePractice)

Tell us about your job?

I look after two exciting products: Sentinus, our business intelligence platform, which is coming soon and ePractice, our practice management software.

Rooted in 25 years in healthcare technology, ePractice has a proven track record, used by thousands of practices and practitioners for managing the admin side of their business. Now, we’ve redeveloped it to give you a smarter, more powerful experience that frees up your time to deliver the best outcomes and be the best you can be for your patients.

The next generation pushes the boundaries by uniting admin and clinical workflows in one secure 3600 system which means it’s capable of supporting the whole patient journey. It’s also packed with fantastic tools and features and has a new and intuitive user interface for a more enjoyable experience.

We’re really proud of the new version and we can’t wait to share it with our customers so managing the successful roll-out is currently the biggest project in my in-tray.

Can you give us a flavour of what to expect from the new ePractice?

Be ready for a complete transformation. We’ve rebuilt ePractice from the ground up into an intelligent Electronic Patient Record (EPR) which enables you to see your patients seamlessly through their journey, without the hassle of having to change to another system. ePractice will be able to handle it all, including appointment scheduling, managing care pathways, digital prescribing, secure communication with colleagues and patient, accounts and business insights.

In terms of new features, integrated prescribing is a fantastic addition for practitioners, especially as it includes smart tools like real-time stock visibility. Our collaboration with Pharmacy2U takes the pain out of the process for patients too as they can get their prescribed medication delivered to their door in 24 hours. Care Pathways is another great feature that helps you and your team manage every step of patient care. As well as ensuring everyone is on the same page, there are prompts to support consistent, effective and timely clinical decision-making and reduce the risk of human error which should lead to better patient outcomes.

How have you made the system more user friendly?

The original ePractice did what it said on the tin but it didn’t look pretty and wasn’t very intuitive. The new ePractice is something people can pick up straight away, just like when you install a new app or upgrade to a new smartphone.

Of course, we’ll have user guides and how-to videos but the interface is smarter and more intuitive that it effectively points you in the right direction. Beyond the good design and brighter colour palette, we’ve adopted a visual language that’s clear, consistent and instantly familiar, including icons, customisable dashboards and user-friendly menus in each section so you can choose the primary actions such as add patient, add appointment etc. The new design also makes it easy for us to add more features – that means your system will keep evolving without disruption, so you’ll always have access to the latest tools as soon as they’re ready.

What else do you think will please customers?

I think they’ll be delighted with how we’ve rebuilt existing features to make them much slicker and easier to use. For example, the system pre-populates invoices with more information to save you re-entering this manually and it’s going to be so much easier to create documents with voice dictation and build your own templates which reflect your branding.

Every enhancement reflects feedback from practitioners, ensuring the system meets real-world needs. Customers today are looking for intelligent solutions that reduce stress and improve their day. That’s why ePractice is powered by Healthcode Intelligence – working seamlessly behind the scenes to help you run your practice with ease and give you more time to care for those who need it most.

How soon will customers get to experience all the new ePractice features?

We’re starting a pilot with selected customers now, that’ll be followed by a phased roll-out with existing customers. We won’t spring it on you- we’ll be in touch to let you know when you’ll be moving to the new system and check you have everything you need.

We’ll aim to cover all bases with our communication but if you want any more information today, please read Healthcode’s FAQs or reach out to the Customer Service team.

What do you like most about working here?

I’ve enjoyed my first few months at Healthcode because of the ambition and positivity I’ve found here – no one is here just for the paycheck.

I’ve worked in this sector for 16 years so I already knew the company but I wondered how receptive my new colleagues would be to different ideas. I didn’t want to work for a company that said, “well, this has worked for 25 years, we’ll keep doing the same thing’. I needn’t have worried though as everyone has been so open to discussing how to make the system better and willing to embrace innovation and change.

For us, it’s not just about developing the best practice management software — it’s about giving practitioners the freedom to focus on what matters most – delivering exceptional patient care. The mindset is that if something has to be rewritten to achieve that goal then we’ll do that. Everyone is willing to work towards our target and it’s quite rare to find a company like that.

And finally, how do you switch off when you aren’t at work?

I’m a newish dad with a hyperactive two-year-old so that’s the biggest thing in my life right now but when I do get the luxury of switching off, I play golf. It’s perfect for getting outside in the fresh air and I feel like I’m getting my 10,000 steps in. My game has got worse over the last couple of years for obvious reasons but I still enjoy playing a round, having a nice pint at the nineteenth hole and then going home to be a dad.

While I don’t like running much compared to golf, I find it clears my head so I’ll go out before or after finishing work. It’s always hard work but it means I can have a beer or two at the weekend.
