No stress, just success: tracking and improving your private practice’s performance

“When you’ve got the right data at your fingertips, improving the performance of your private practice becomes a lot easier. It’s all about using tools that help you see trends, find gaps and opportunities and make smart decisions,” says Nicola Kingsmill, Practice Management Product Owner.

In this update, Nicola dives into how you can use your practice management software (PMS) to capture performance data and shares some ideas for turning that information into real results for your practice.

Capture the right data from day one

The key to managing your business performance is capturing the right data early on. Think about what you’ll want to know in a year’s time — patient demographics, referral sources and treatment types are all interesting data that may show patterns over time. Set up your PMS to collect this data as you go so you’re not scrambling later. Avoid free-text entries; using structured systems like CCSD, ISC and ICD* will make analysis way easier.

Make the most of your practice management software

Your PMS isn’t just for keeping track of patient details and managing invoices — it’s a goldmine for business insights. For example, you can use your PMS to understand which procedures you’re performing the most, helping you make informed decisions about growing your practice.

Your PMS reports can reveal patterns in your business. Are certain times of day always busy with appointments, while others are quiet? Is one location always full, so is it time to expand your offering at that site? Look at the demographics of your patients and see if you’re missing out on an age range or group. Understanding these trends helps you market more effectively and grow your practice strategically.
